One week in advance of their wedding, I was excited to attend Linda and Matthew's tea ceremony. In Vietnamese culture, the tea ceremony consists of a set of traditions including the groom's family being received at the bride's house, the groomsmen bestowing gifts to the bride's parents, and the bride's parents giving the groom the 5th degree in front of both their extended families.
Matthew, the ever-cool surfer, gave what I believe to be the best response to, "Why were you interested in my daughter?"
"Well, I knew she was a local surfer girl and figured she'd know where the good waves were."
Luckily, Matthew has already worked his way into the good graces of Linda's parents, and into Linda's heart. I'm eager to be a part of their wedding next week, especially after this beautiful afternoon!
